The EuroLeague proposes that Russian teams play their home games on neutral ground
It seems that the Russian teams of the EuroLeague play on neutral ground in their home games, as the organizer indicated on today’s conference call.
The war situation in Ukraine and the insecurity of many teams is expected to result in Russian teams’ headquarters being relocated outside of Russia, as proposed by the EuroLeague. Therefore, CSKA Moscow, Unics Kazan and Zenit will most likely play away and in home games until the end of the season, so that the team can spend the rest of the season in the tournament and not postpone additional games.
Many groups were reluctant to travel to Russia for fear of war in Ukraine and did not want to risk their safety. No final decision has been made yet and the representatives of the 18 teams will repeat it on Monday (02/28) to find a way to make this change.
We remind you that the matches of the Russian teams have already been postponed for the 27th game and many teams (like Villeurbanne but and Zalgiris) had no plans to travel to Russia for the next games. In fact, CSKA – Barcelona will also be postponed.
