EuroLeague Basketball announced that until recently all matches of Russian teams will be held on neutral ground.
EuroLeague Basketball has accepted the plan that UEFA is now implementing regarding the matches of the three Russian teams (CSKA Moscow, Zenit and Unics Kazan) in light of the war in Ukraine.
Notably, following the conference call on Friday morning, February 25, EuroLeague Basketball announced that the decision had been made to hold the three’s games outside of Russia so that there would be no issues developing the event.
The EuroLeague Basketball announcement in detail:
“The eighteen (18) teams participating in the EuroLeague met via video conference on Friday and made the following decisions:
- The definition of a plan that will temporarily move all matches scheduled to be played on Russian soil to locations other than Russia, with the exception of matches: Zenit – Unics Kazan and Zenit – CSKA Moscow, which will take place on March 22 and April 1, respectively .
- Matches involving Russian teams and scheduled to take place outside Russian territory will take place normally.
- CSKA Moscow’s game against Barcelona, scheduled for Sunday 27 February, has been postponed.
“EuroLeague Basketball will analyze the various alternatives to implement the decisions and submit the plan to the Board of Shareholders for approval.”
