War in Ukraine: CSKA Moscow sees its squad dissolved
After the departure of Sengelia, Vogtman, Grigonis, Ludberg from Moscow, CSKA has only 11 players.
Ifi Ludberg, Marius Grigonis, Johan Vogtman and Toko Sengelia were in no mood to continue playing basketball in Moscow due to what happened in the last few days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. They left the Russian capital, with CSKA understanding the anguish of their families, with the result that Dimitris Itoudis sees his squad disintegrating, not knowing if there will be new losses given the continuation of the EuroLeague season on neutral ground.
Now the Greek coach has 11 athletes available, at least until he’s younger, as everything seems to be in flux at the club and dates change hour by hour. He has Alerik Freeman in his guard, he’s waiting for Kevin Pangos, he’s counting on Ivan Uhoff, Daniel Hackett and Alexi Svend. Forwards include Semen Antonov, Will Claiborne, Andrei Lopatin and Nikita Kurbanov, while Nikola Milutinov, Joel Bolobov and Vladimir Ivlev are in fifth place. Again, until recently, since no one can predict what tomorrow will bring to the Russian army team.
CSKA has a record of 14-10 (8-4 home and 6-6 away), is sixth in the ranking of 18 teams and has three games fewer than Monaco (14-13) and two of Unics Kazan – Anantolou Efes (13-12) who follow him.
