EuroLeague: The ranking if the three Russian teams are eliminated
The decision of EuroLeague Basketball on the possible exclusion of CSKA Moscow, Zenit and Unics Kazan from this year’s tournament changes the data in the ranking. See what the picture will look like when that happens.
EuroLeague Basketball postponed matches of three Russian teams (CSKA Moscow, Zenit, Unics Kazan) to next month and left the asterisk of exclusion from this year’s tournament until the war in Ukraine stops.
So if something like this happens, all three representatives of Russia will stop playing this season, or rather the data in the EuroLeague ranking will change drastically. Simply because their previous results will not be taken into account and the correlations will be drastically different.
To such an extent that Bayern and Anadolu Efes will enter the octave and now have the upper hand for the postseason. On the other hand, Monaco will see the competition erupt strongly and will be in a more difficult position.
The essence for Olympiakos does not change as they remain in the top four of the tournament. Of course, the positive for the Red-Whites is that three home advantage contenders are eliminated from the equation, while Bayern and Anadolu Efes are the ones taking their place and battling for fourth place. On the other hand, Panathinaikos OPAP sits penultimate in the rankings with six wins.
See how the EuroLeague standings will look if CSKA Moscow, Zenit and Unics Kazan don’t return to this year’s tournament (results with the three Russians in brackets):
- Barcelona 17-4 (3-1)
- Real Madrid 16: 5 (4: 1)
- Armani Milan 15-6 (2-2)
- Olympiacos 14-7 (1-2)
- Bayern 12-9 (0-3)
- Anantolo Efes 11-8 (2-3)
- Maccabi Tel Aviv 10-10 (1-3)
- Monaco 10-12 (4-1)
- Fenerbahçe 9-12 (3-0)
- Red Star 8-12 (2-3)
- Alba Berlin 7-12 (2-3)
- Basconia 7-13 (0-4)
- Villeurbanne 7-15 (2-2)
- Panathinaikos OPAP 6-14 (1-3)
- Salgiris 5-15 (0-4)
