EuroLeague: The alternative proposal for the ranking procedure
According to a report by BasketNews, if the Russian teams are eliminated, the EuroLeague will propose another way to establish the tournament ranking.
As war rages in Ukraine and the prospect of a ceasefire seems far off, EuroLeague Basketball is already preparing for the next steps. Especially in terms of rankings as we’re just a breath away from completing the regular season.
According to a report by BasketNews, Jordi Bertomeu is set to make a special proposal for the teams’ ranking so that no one feels thrown out or favoured. Who is she;
- The previous results against the Russian teams remain as they are
- The next games are considered postponed, which means that the teams will not win them on paper.
- Positions in the leaderboard are judged by win percentage, not win/loss
According to the same publication, EuroLeague clubs will vote in favor of this proposal in the coming days, in order to immediately clarify what the situation will be in case of expulsion of CSKA Moscow, Zenit and Unics Kazan. The vote obviously affects the other teams at the event.
