CSKA: Johannes Vogtmann drove 2,500 kilometers to reach Poland
Johannes Vogtmann was one of the first CSKA Moscow players to leave because of the invasion of Ukraine. The tall 29-year-old drove 2,500 kilometers before he reached Poland.
CSKA Moscow returns to face Avtodor in the VTB League on Monday afternoon, March 7th. A game in which most of the foreign players will be absent due to the invasion of Ukraine (ss: Daniel Hackett is already training with Virtus Bologna).
And if most people wait until they have made their final decisions, for Johannes Vogtmann the matter is more or less clear. The 29-year-old spoke to the kicker just days ago and opened the door to CSKA Moscow’s final exit as “I can’t imagine playing for a Russian team“.
Johannes Vogtmann was one of the first foreign players from CSKA Moscow to leave Russia after the outbreak of war. Except that the way (escape) was not so easy and simple given the problems that existed with the planes.
So what did he do? He took his dog and got into his car, which he filled with personal belongings. As much as possible like he mentioned. So began the long journey to Poland. That means it covered a distance of up to 2,500 kilometers on the road. From Moscow to Kaunas, where he met former teammate Janis Strelnieks, and from there to Poland.
When will he (called) return to Moscow? Unknown. Although playing under Dimitris Itoudis’ helm again seems extremely difficult at the right time. Not just this year in general. First of all, a compromise solution has to be found with his contract, which runs until the summer of 2023.
