EuroLeague: Score without counting games with Russian teams

EuroLeague Basketball along with the 15 teams remaining in the tournament after developments with the three Russian teams (Unics Kazan, CSKA Moscow and Zenit) was decided on Monday, March 7th.

The decision to formulate the EuroLeague ranking without considering the results of the three Russian teams (Unics Kazan, CSKA Moscow and Zenit) during the regular season, the remaining fifteen (15) teams of the tournament on Monday, March 7 won.

The decision of how to proceed should the three Russian teams be eliminated from this season was in the hands of the fifteen (15) remaining members of the tournament, who had to vote between them and the possibility of considering the percentage of wins – without prior Results to “delete”.

So, barring a shocking twist in the war in the coming days and the season ending without CSKA Moscow, Zenit and Unics Kazan, the tally at the appropriate time is as follows (in brackets the results with the three Russians, which are not taken into account):

  1. Barcelona 18-4 (3-1)
  2. Real Madrid 16: 5 (4: 1)
  3. Armani Milan 16-6 (2-2)
  4. Olympiacos 15-7 (1-2)
  5. Anantolo Efes 12-8 (2-3)
  6. Bayern 12-10 (0-3)
  7. Maccabi Tel Aviv 11-10 (1-3)
  8. Monaco 10-13 (4-1)
  9. Fenerbahce 9-13 (3-0)
  10. Red Star 9-12 (2-3)
  11. Alba Berlin 8-12 (2-3)
  12. Villeurbanne 7-15 (2-2)
  13. Basconia 7-15 (0-4)
  14. Panathinaikos OPAP 6-16 (1-3)
  15. Salgiris 6-16 (0-4)

Based on this plan, Bayern, Anadolu Efes and Maccabi are the three winners after essentially losing to CSKA Moscow, Zenit and Unics Kazan. That’s how they find the opportunity to climb up the leaderboard and get (very) firmly into qualifying in the postseason.

On the other hand, Monaco (4-1 v Russia) and Fenerbahce (3-0 v Russia) are the two big losers, as the former in particular lost valuable ground and had… air for a ticket after the finals.

This scenario will also be implemented, provided that the war in Ukraine does not change anything and the three representatives of Russia (CSKA Moscow, Zenit and Unics Kazan) are excluded for the rest of this season. Something that seems like the most likely scenario.
