EuroLeague: Quarantine will only be shortened to seven days for vaccinated players
EuroLeague Basketball announced the shortening of the quarantine from 14 to 7 days only for the vaccinated athletes. Change for the “eight healthy athletes” when postponed if unvaccinated.
EuroLeague Basketball announced the ratification of the quarantine reduction for athletes suffering from coronavirus. As was officially announced on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, this halving (7 instead of 14 days) only affects vaccinated athletes, a thought (as reported by Sportish on December 28, 2021) who train.
For the unvaccinated, however, the absence of the fourteen days before returning to racing remains. As became clear in the publication, the obligation to provide a negative sample remains in place in a diagnostic test by means of a PCR test prior to resumption of action.
At the same time, the EuroLeague Basketball announced a small but important change to the “eight healthy athletes” rule that every team must have in order to be able to play a game.
In this case it says: “If national / local laws restrict an unvaccinated athlete from traveling or participating in a race, that athlete will be deemed “available” and will be placed on the list of eight in the EuroLeague“.
What does that mean in practice? How can we also see teams of seven players in one game since the eighth cannot travel with the rest of the mission or enter the stadium based on each country’s health protocol.
Finally, the EuroLeague announced that 93% of the team members (athletes, coaches, employees) are vaccinated.
All of this process came about after the conference call held by the teams’ shareholders of the event to continue this season without further problems or postponements, as it basically did in the 18th and 19th Games. This measure is a continuation of what the NBA had taken a few days earlier, when the highest league in the world, on the recommendation of the CDC, was the first to reduce the quarantine for vaccinated athletes.
