Sportish unveils an incredible story of Adidas Next Generation of Patras starring Vassilis Spanoulis, the man who will try to change the mentality of young Greek players.

After eight games at the Adidas Next Generation EuroLeague tournaments in Belgrade and Patras, Vassilis Spanoulis is certain that he will become a coach. He’s having a good time in front of the bench, he loves inspiring new kids, he likes the stress, the agony, the tension like he had in the next-gen Patras match against Helsinki, he seems born for the role to be for a new career. And it seems most appropriate to help children aged 15, 16, 17, 18 to understand that the gap with foreign schools has opened.

Makis Giatras said he’s happy Spanoulis is staying close to the sport, from a new position he’s sure he’ll grow as a coach and indeed there was a moment in the Patras tournament when coach Bill showed his mentality most characteristic way, as you may have heard in the fourth installment of Bald Brothers starring Spyros Kavalieratos and Haris Stavrou.

As Spanoulis crossed the corridor of Tofalos’ locker rooms, he heard loud music behind a closed door. So he wondered which team had organized a party. He opened the door and saw a group of teenagers from a Greek team that had previously suffered a heavy defeat! His reaction was violent, after all, those who know what Spanoulis is can imagine the cocktail of emotions he had at that moment.

He explained to them that their behavior is not in line with the mindset that young athletes who dream of reaching heights should have and engaged in some conversations that will – hopefully – circulate in many minds for a long time in the hope that this will the case will inspire, give motivation, persuade through hard work and humility. Otherwise, the ceiling will be low and Greek basketball will continue to use binoculars to look for real talent.
