Diamantidis: “EuroLeague 2007 is my favorite title”
Dimitris Diamantidis spoke to EuroLeague about winning the 2007 EuroLeague in Athens when Panathinaikos defeated CSKA in the final and said it was his favorite title.
The EuroLeague asked Dimitris Diamantidis to go 15 years back to the Final Four of Athens in 2007. When Panathinaikos won the title, he prevailed 93-91 from CSKA in the final, with “3D” emerging as MVP Final Four. And the answer from the “green” legend was definitely interesting.
The reigning GM of the “Greens” initially claimed that he was not doing well with the memories, but then unwound the jumble of memories and remembered Zeljko Obradovic’s attacks in the dressing room before the final and the atmosphere on the pitch while he was admitted that the This trophy – the first EuroLeague trophy he won – is also his favorite.
Dimitris Diamantidis mentioned in detail:
“We had high expectations in the 2006/07 season and our goal was to make it to the Final Four. From week to week we got better as a team and in the end we were very lucky, but not only lucky, we also had a good team and qualified for the Final Four in Athens.
In the semifinals we met Taou Keramika, we beat her, we got to the final and there we met a great team, CSKA. We beat her and we were very happy about it.
For me it was my favorite EuroLeague title of the ones I won. He was special. Coach Obradovic said before the locker room game that it is final, we are concerned but in the end it will only be a game. We are in Athens with our fans. Let’s get down to earth to enjoy it and in the end we will be winners.
Natural tactics were part of the game, especially against a team like CSKA with great players and a team. They also had a great coach like Ettore Messina. So we had all the good things about CSKA in the back of our minds, but we also saw the team’s weaknesses. We had a good game and we won.
My favorite phase, I don’t remember when it was, but I remember Mike Batiste scored a very important basket. We were close to the score and with this difficult basket he gave us confidence as a team.
I was very happy because I didn’t know the feeling of winning the Euroleague. I was 27 in Athens, you couldn’t ask for more. Everything was perfect. In Athens the first trophy with 20,000 fans, what more could you want?
I celebrated my victory by hugging my teammates, everyone. That’s what i did A special memory was the one that everyone has after a title. “I went into the locker room where there was champagne and someone rained on us all.”
