Remember, beat (not so much) the shock for Olympiacos

Olympiacos lost their coach, their minds and their rationale. Fener gave him almost 60 points in the second half, scored 65% and Giannis Fileris writes about the universal defeat in Istanbul and the sequel that … has many games

The action ban, which lasts several days, is not overcome with two training units while the team was in full swing before the coronavirus. Especially when even whoever ought to be the coolest of them all lacks a clear mind. Suddenly Olympiakos wanted to beat the decimated Fener without his coach, who had received two technical penalties in the same phase and the mistakes resembled a double tariff.

You could say the “reds and whites” put their hands together and took their eyes out.

Fener had the enthusiasm and self-denial of a team that doesn’t have their best players (De Colo, Veseli), lost another yambol evening (Sayok), scored some incredible shots, but the normal Olympiakos (with the hand coaches on all the time the bank) would hit them lightly or hard.

He lost … easily because he wasn’t Olympiacos. At least the team we knew from the 17 games in the preliminary round and their performance. The numbers fully confirm this because:

  • He received 94 points, more than ever in this year’s Euroleague and with an average of 22.2 points more than his opponents have previously scored on average (72.2).
  • Fener shot a total of 34/62 shots, or 54.8%. Usually his opponents make the same effort (62) but with a much lower percentage of accuracy (41.8%). In addition, the Turks finished the game with 15/29 threesomes, ie 51.7%, while the average of their opponents in the first round of the Euroleague did not exceed 30.5%! Especially in the second half, the hosts broke with an overall rate of 65.4% (9/14 two points and … 12/18 three points!)
  • They also gave 27 assists, the most any Olympiacos opponent has ever had this season, and a total of 9 more on average.

In two words, the very tough Olympiakos stands out defensively with his eyes instead of his … mouth. But definitely not with hands and bodies. If everything starts from the back on this year’s course, the total number of points and, above all, the percentages shot by the hosts will show how and how they won. Just watch with the “red-whites”.

The target is the runaway Dorsey

The main focus of the game, apart from Bartzokas being sent off, was in the third period. It is not right to put responsibility on one person, defeat affects everyone. Nevertheless, the reversal of the picture of the match in the first part (where Olympiakos kept control at the edges even with ups and downs) has to a large extent the name Tyler Dorsey.

Fener’s defense mercilessly pursued the international guard, pressuring him, forcing him to lose his mind, and even responding to the wrong thugs found in such games. Logically he should have entered the second part, calmly and not ready in every phase to make the … mistake.

In the fatal third half, which started with Olympiakos 36-39 at the front and ended up with Fener 66-59 (partial score 30-20), Tyler made one miss and four errors, which led to 14 points for the hosts. Maybe more because he mostly lost his personal opponent in defense.

Yes, he played a major role in his team’s last race to catch up when he scored two threes in a row and took the lead again at 50:52, but Fener’s 16-4 favor that followed had his own mistakes as the main starting point.

The worst thing for Christos Pappas, who took Bartzokas’s place after the two penalties, was that neither Wokap was on his best day, Mac Kisik was injured in the first half and Larentzakis couldn’t get a single positive phase.

When Fener was shot into the goal with great self-confidence, Olympiakos stayed away from his standards, especially in defense, and the defeat was normal.

The games give rhythm

The coronavirus is the additional unpredictable factor in the flow of the Euroleague. Pretty much all of the teams were hit by the fact that when they came out of quarantine it would take a few days and games to get back on their feet. Olympiakos had to play for nearly three weeks, with training paused after the virus hit the entire dozen.

That means we’ll have to wait a while longer to see the regular Olympiakos again and not the team that has become easy prey for half of Fener. Both the training sessions and the upcoming games will give him rhythm. The one with Zenit won’t happen after Covid has encircled St. Petersburg, but he has plenty of games to recover and leave on the sidelines tonight in Istanbul.

Losing doesn’t change his course, but it does force him to be vigilant, focus and hold back (whether it’s a player or a coach) as things will eventually flatten everyone with development and the shifts that have occurred Play together and the willingness and endurance of each team will be measured. There will be losses for the other teams as well, not only Olympiakos is affected by the corona virus.

There are also postponed games for the Greek championship and here we would like to ask … how is it possible that the EEC is considering postponing the Greek Cup Final Four without seeking the opinion of interested clubs. Where will the association find appointments while a number of games in the Euroleague and championship are due?

If the rumors are true about the real reasons that are causing the association to think about the postponement (and it’s not exactly the coronavirus and the empty platforms in Dyo Aorakia), then they shouldn’t be discussing it at all …
