Panathinaikos – CSKA 74-98: A night he wants to forget …

CSKA Moscow did what it wanted in OAKA and forced Panathinaikos OPAP to another heavy defeat in the EuroLeague (98:74). The Greens disappointed with their performance over three seasons, remained seven and a half minutes without a point in the first half.

The night was very difficult from the start (ss: given the almost two-week abstinence from training due to coronavirus), but it became … a mountain. Panathinaikos OPAP failed to disturb CSKA Moscow (except for eight minutes). In addition, he saw Dimitris Itoudis’s players do what they wanted for most of the game, resulting in another major defeat that season (98-74).

The greens lasted until the 8th minute of play before suffering an unprecedented blackout that lasted seven and a half minutes and resulted in 23 (!) Unanswered points. Fatally, the game took on a procedural character from the middle of the second period, with the hosts only interested in limiting the defeat.

O MVP

Daniel Hackett has played so well for a long time, at least when it comes to the manager. The 34-year-old CSKA Moscow man was the one who did the most damage to the Greek defense during the Russian domination in the second ten minutes, punishing the hosts for every shot they gave him. The result was to finish the game on 17 points, with 2/3 two points, 4/6 three points and 1/1 shot on 22’28 ” which was on the ground. He also filled his statistics with 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 block and thus collected 26 points in the EuroLeague rating system.

The weak link

On a night like this, it is not easy for Panathinaikos OPAP to pick a player who did not bid. Quite simply because everyone was far behind and far from what they can really give the clover.

The statistics that stood out

The percentages of guests in the threesome were impressive from a young age. Dimitris Itoudis’s players had 14/23 threes up to the 30th minute (efficiency only declined in the last third), with 7/9 accurate threesomes in the second half being the most typical example of the certainty with which they shot out of the game have the 6μ75.

The race

Despite the long absence of both teams, the game had a very good pace in the first few minutes. Panathinaikos OPAP had no problem with the pace Dimitris Itoudis’s players were trying to achieve, with Ioannis Papapetrou pulling the offensive strings and all the greens playing quite well.

However, the +3 (20-17) of the game’s 8 ‘was followed by an unprecedented blackout. Panathinaikos OPAP went seven and a half minutes without a point, while CSKA Moscow scored three points after another. With Daniel Hackett (4/5 threes at halftime) and Marius Grigonis in the role of the frontrunner from the periphery, the guests – finally – pressed the accelerator and shot the difference to +25 (26-51) in the 17th minute.

As it should be, it got too difficult somewhere for the clover, who went into the changing room with the -27 (33-60) of the break. By the way, CSKA Moscow finished the first part with 11/18 three points (61.1%), but also 15 assists – while Panathinaikos OPAP had 12/30 inside the child and 8 assists for 7 mistakes.

With the difference so blatant, it was clear that the most important thing for the greens from there and beyond was not to – for good – evade the situation. That said, not bringing the Russian leadership to a level that would add the night to the blacks of the team’s history.

Beyond -30 (41-71 in 26 ‘), however, there was nothing worse for Dimitris Priftis’ team. The guests let their foot off the gas, Dimitris Itoudis opened the rotation a lot and somehow the greens found a way (but also the reason) to reduce it. Not at a level that would allow them to smile, but no matter how we do it, at least not at a level that would bring back even worse memories.

CSKA Moscow took the win (98-74) and improved their psychology, unlike Panathinaiko’s OPAP, who added another disappointing performance to his net worth this year.

THE REFEREES: Ritzik – Mughalkots – Petek.

THE TEN MINUTES: 20-26, 33-60, 55-77, 74-98.

PANATHINAIKOS OPAP (Priftis): Peri 15 (3/3 three points), Meikon 11 (0/4 three points), Papagiannis 9 (4 rebounds), Bohoridis (0/3 two points), Kavvadas, Papapetrou 16 (7/9 two points , 0/3 three points, 2/2 shots, 4 assists, 3 errors), White 6, Abdalas, Nedovic 3 (1), Evans 5 (1 three points, 5 rebounds), Sand Ross 9 (6 assists).

CSKA MOSCOW (Itoudis): Ludberg 8 (2), Boloboi 8 (8 rebounds), Homenko 3, Uhoff 7 (2), Hackett 17 (4/6 3-pointers, 5 rebounds, 6 assists), Antonov 2, Vogtman 5 (1 / 4 three points, 5 rebounds), Sengelia 16 (1), Milutinov 2 (5 rebounds), Grigonis 19 (4/8 three points), Kurbanov 5 (1), Svend 6 (2).

Team Statistics – Panathinaikos OPAP: 22/41 two points, 5/17 three points, 15/18 shots, 23 rebounds (18 defensive + 5 offensive) 15 assists, 7 steals, 11 errors, 1 block.

Group stats – CSKA Moscow: 19/34 two points, 17/34 three points, 9/10 shots, 35 rebounds (25 defensive + 10 offensive), 24 assists, 6 steals, 12 mistakes, 4 blocks.

The teams’ next commitments: Panathinaikos OPAP Maccabi Tel Aviv (January 14th, 9:00 pm) will receive two nights, while CSKA Moscow will return to the MegaSport Arena to face Villeurbanne (January 14th, 7:00 pm).

Mustafa Fal, the red spider web

Mustafa Fal, the red spider web

Mustafa Fal has delivered a monstrous performance in international matches and Vassilis Skoundis is tackling the problem, inevitably involving the first teacher of the art, Panagiotis Fassoulas.

“The gypsy saw his generation and his heart rejoiced,” says a proverb whose meaning fits the occasion… I mean, the occasion of Fal seeing the other Fal opposite him and enjoying him normally and in accordance with the law!

Let the necessary recommendations be made…

One of them is Mustafa Fal, who was born in Paris on February 23, 1992, he is French, he plays in his country’s national team, his hat comes from Senegal, he has been looking since he was 2.18. He is in his third season at Olympiacos…

Yusufa and Taco

The other person who competed against him yesterday is Youssoufa Fal, who was born in Dakar on January 12, 1995, is a Senegalese with French nationality, has a height of 2.21 m and is competing in Villerban for the third consecutive time…

There is of course the much wilder Taco Fal, who was also born in Dakar on December 10, 1995, spent three seasons in the NBA, is now sizzling in China and has had his head tickling the feet of God since he was 229 cm tall!

Mustafa, Yusufa and Tako have no relationship or kinship between them: they are synonymous, apart from the coincidence that ensures that they are all three kilometers long!

The triple-double figure in Pylaia

He had attacked the Olympiacos central defender again on the 11th of last month, on the occasion of the triple-double he scored in the game against PAOK in Pylaia, rare in our area, but he wanted to make us laugh for a while as his only goal!

At first he missed Yannis Fileris who treated him properly, but I also have some stitches for his fur!

To say my sin, I laughed and liked Fileris’ pun on… Wrong!

Fasoulas and… Lumidis

In any case, “Pani” was like…Lumidis in the field of coffee roasting, plus he made heads turn with soft nails with his unique and unparalleled skills.

To paraphrase Lumidis’ advertising slogan: in our case it was “Everyone in their own way and Fasoulas in their caps“!

Since the conversation broke out, the experienced PAOK and Olympiacos international center has recorded five triple-doubles with points, rebounds and blocks, which are of course rarer than those that include assists.

He scored the first of these goals on October 15, 1988 (PAOK-Panionios) with 18 points, 18 rebounds and 13 blocks.

Two weeks later he “wrote” the second with 20-18-11 against Apollon Patras, on November 19 he followed the third against Sporting (29-19-15), while in the 1990/91 season he added two more: 18 – 14-10 with Peristeri and 19-12-11 with Iraklis.

Vrankovic’s record and the “wow” with Green

Similar triple feats with plugs have also been achieved by Stojan Vrankovic (who is already the record holder in EuroLeague history with 10 in a Fortitudo Bologna-Cibona Zagreb game) with Panathinaikos, Anthony Cook with PAOK, Mike Smrek with Dafni, PJ Brown with Panionios, Efthymis Renzias with the National Youth Team and Antonis Fotsis with the Greens youth team.

On Friday night in Lyon, Fall broke the bank when he nearly followed in Draymond Green’s footsteps and posted a rare triple-double without scoring in double figures.

He reached the final horn with two points, seven rebounds, seven assists and eight blocks, while the Warriors’ cocky forward did so on February 10, 2017 against the Grizzlies with 11 rebounds, 10 assists, 10 steals and just two points.

From 0.8 to 8

Fal had grabbed 14 rebounds in the game against Red Star while he dished out seven assists in the game against Baskonia, so there is no news here…

The wave was caused by the eight caps, because on the one hand there are a lot of them and on the other hand the so-called do not have a big problem with davtes.

Before the game with Villerban, he had taken 12 shots in 14 games, and suddenly he flashed and thundered from a 0.8 average to eight!

What is the key quality a good blocker should have?

The cap for Moretti, the timing and the caps

Instead of answering, I’ll give the floor to a specialist and expert, none other than Panagiotis Fasoulas, who, among other things, scored the most decisive international match in the history of Olympiacos!

I am referring to the match against Paolo Moretti in the third game of the European Champions Cup playoff series in the 10993/94 season, thanks to which Piraeus qualified for the Final 4 in Tel Aviv.

Everything is a question of timing“he explained to me when I asked him how he cultivated and developed his art.

You need to know and understand where, when and how to jump to block the opponent’s shot. In addition to this sense of space and time, speed of movement and long arms also play a role. I did the caps and even covered the ball so we could go straight to attack” explains Fasoulas, who is already drawing the moral lesson of the story…

“Attack requires talent, but defense depends on will.”

The spider web

Last but not least, this desire flowed from the… gums of Fasoula, who went out and trapped his opponents in the spider’s web from which no one could escape.

From his appearance in the early 80s until his retirement in 1999, he reduced defense not only to a science, but to a spectacular spectacle!

The landlord’s tests are clear, he will be left out against Prometheus

End of alert for Matias Lesor at Panathinaikos AKTOR. The French center has a bad back due to the injury and will miss tomorrow’s (December 24th) game against Prometheus in Patras (20:15, ERT3 and LIVE on Sportish), but his tests were clear.

Matias Lesor will play in tomorrow’s (December 24th) away game of Panathinaikos AKTOR against Prometheus (8:15 p.m., 3 a.m. and LIVE from Sportish) on matchday 11 of the Stoiximan Basket League due to the lower back injury he sustained in this game , do not compete Armani Milano. But he escaped the worst.

The French center was tested immediately after the return of the “Greens” from Milan, who were “clean”. In other words, they didn’t show that the bone was broken in the middle – which everyone feared when they saw the Frenchman slaughtered on the ground. But Lesor is still in pain, ruling him out of the game against Prometheus and considered doubtful for next week’s EuroLeague game against Red Star.

With Lesor out, Oleg Balcherovski, Kostas Antetokounmpo and Dinos Mitoglou will fill the center position in the game against Prometheus.
