EuroLeague: Only vaccinated athletes at games in Monaco and Villeurbanne
According to the new draft law passed in France, the right of access to many venues, including athletes, will only be vaccinated, which directly affects the athletes for the EuroLeague games against Monaco and Villeurbanne.
The right to enter several places, between them and the athletes, only be vaccinated after the new law was passed by the French Parliament on Sunday evening (16.1.), on the basis of which The measures will be tightened and the vaccination card with the booster dose will be required to access many places, including sports facilities.
This directly affects the EuroLeague, with both Villeurbanne and Monaco taking part in the tournament. So in order for an athlete to compete against these two teams, they must be fully vaccinated and have taken the booster dose. Otherwise, he is not allowed to enter the pitch and take part in the matches against these two teams. It should be noted that in order to get to the Principality of Monaco, one must land on French soil and then travel there.
Both Olympiacos and Panathinaikos have competitive commitments against these two sides in France. Specifically, Olympiacos will play two games in France, one against Monaco on March 23 and one against Villeurbanne two days later (25/3) for the 31st and 32nd games of the EuroLeague. Additionally, Panathinaikos will be invited to travel to France earlier as they face Villeurbanne on February 11 in the 26th game of the tournament.
This means that in order for the two Greek teams to compete in full, all players must have been vaccinated with the booster vaccination, otherwise they will not be able to play.
A few days ago the sports minister of France, Roxana Maratsineanou. had given an interview in which he exempted athletes from international competitions from the vaccination card requirement, but posted on social media on the occasion of the new draft law and made it clear that there was no such exception.
“The vaccination certificate has been approved. Once the law is implemented, it will be mandatory to enter public buildings where a certificate (stadiums, theaters) is already required for all spectators, participants, French or foreign professionals. I thank the Sport Movement for ” Work to convince the last unvaccinated. We will work together to become international ambassadors for these actions.”
The percentage of unvaccinated Team members (athletes, coaches, coaches) in the EuroLeague is of course not big, as also mentioned by the organizer 93% are already vaccinated, just under 7% are unvaccinated. In any case, this 7% has no right to enter the sports venues of France and then the athletes who make up this percentage cannot compete against Villeurbanne and Monaco.
