Mozzart Sport: “Final Four 2022 in Belgrade instead of Berlin”

According to a Serbian publication, EuroLeague Basketball is ready to move the 2022 Final Four from Berlin to Belgrade.

The (new) outbreak of the pandemic across Europe, especially in Germany, has changed the situation in sport, with countries – one by one – adapting the health protocol. That detail was hastened by Serbia, which is doing everything it can to convince EuroLeague Basketball to move the 2022 Final Four from Germany.

What has been rumored for the past few days will be recorded as news on Tuesday 18 January by Mozzart Sport. The Serbian website claims that the Mayor of Belgrade Goran Vesic has taken all necessary steps to convince EuroLeague Basketball of the rightness of this step, focusing on the epidemiological data and the fact that there is a risk that the Final Four will be held without fans present, like last year in Cologne.

The same website explains that there are only details left for finalizing the decision for Stark Arena to become the ‘home’ of the 2022 Final Four, just as it happened in 2018 – then Real Madrid conquered it with Luka Doncic .

On the other hand, it is worth noting that so far all this has been recorded only in Serbia based on their own (internal) sources. The fear of the Hallenstadion for the Final Four is the trigger for all (these) scenarios, with all developments expected in the coming weeks.

We remind you that a few days ago the ANGT in Munich was postponed for exactly the same reasons. Restrictions across Germany are quite severe as the country’s stadiums are now closed for fifteen days following a government decision.

The ball is in the hands of EuroLeague Basketball, which is called upon to either wait and see how the pandemic will play out in Germany, or to operate proactively and avoid a possible… closed-door fiasco.
