Huge effort, huge shot, huge victory for Prometheus on Wednesday evening (11/23). Patras beat Slask 78-76 in the fifth game of EuroCup in Wroclaw and stayed at the top of their group 1.2″ before the final thanks to a 3-pointer from Anthony Cowan.
At 5:1 the team of Makis Giatras (2:0 home and 2:2 away), at 0:5 the Poles (0:3 home and 0:2 away), remaining on the last place in the table. Joe Young stopped at 20, Arnolda’s Culboca at 19, for a win that came without Prometheus catching high standards. And that’s perhaps the most important thing tonight.

As great as he rebounded in the first third (19 overall, 12 defensively and 7 offensively), Prometheus missed the goal (4/12 2-pointers, 1/5 3-pointers) and made six turnovers, leaving the hosts behind . With Martin reaching 13, Slask was +10 (24-14) early in the second, but that’s where Young and Kulboka did incredible, giving their team a 4-15 lead. They didn’t last long as Slask responded with a 42-33 halftime lead in kind that looked tough for Yatra’s team, who were 4/15 from 3-point range and had six assists to seven turnovers.
The picture of the game did not change at the beginning of the second half. The hosts had a good lead while Young couldn’t find rhythm, leaving Prometheus looking for other points. The 60-48 in the 28th minute didn’t leave much room for optimism for the Patrons, who however cut back to a point (66-65) and equalized to 70-70, with Cowan taking the big shot and using it to make it 76-78 at 1.2″. It was followed by a time-out and a miss by Morgan to allow Prometheus a really big result.
