Prometheus – Prometheus 80:57: EuroLeague dream wiped out early in Riga

Prometheus failed to qualify for the EuroCup semi-finals, losing to Prometheus in Riga (80-57) and ending this year’s European presence.

Prometheus didn’t let Prometheus feel they could qualify for the “4” of the EuroCup and dominated the game in Riga from the start. Ronen Ginzburg’s men were clearly superior, had significantly better percentages and won the qualification relatively easily (80-57), which means they remain in the game for the ticket to the EuroLeague 2023/24.

And Prometheus? Yiannis Christopoulos’ team ended a great – if anything – European run in poor fashion, with big wins and a steady run in the regular season. Now attention turns to the Basket League Playoffs fight against PAOK.

The race

Prometheus didn’t start the game well, especially in terms of attack options. Unlike Prometei who had pace, energy and most importantly good percentages. The hosts reached +9 (16-7 in 7′) and a little later +11 (22-11 in 9′), which quickly transferred the pressure to the side of the Greek team.

Whatever Yannis Christopoulos tried, it didn’t work. Low percentages and many errors (6 in the first quarter) kept Prometheus from getting closer, with the Ukrainian lead increasing minute by minute to +15 (44-29) at halftime. A point where Prometheus had 3/12 threes and 7 assists for 8 turnovers.

Very quickly, beginning the third period, Prometheus essentially cleaned up the game. Full throttle and thanks to the dominance of the airwaves, Ronen Ginzburg’s team hit +22 (62-40) in the 30th minute to make the rest of the match a formality.

Now that the dream of qualifying for the EuroCup semi-finals had been snuffed out, Giannis Christopoulos opened up the rotation and gave all players a chance to step onto the floor.

THE REFEREES: Difala – Travitsky – Porobisch.

THE DECADES: 25-16, 43-29, 62-40, 80-57.
