EuroCup: Unimaginable fiasco for Partizan, eliminated at 16
Zelimir Obradovics Partizan went as the favorite for the EuroCup title, suffered a home defeat – but a shock from Bursaspor (103:95) and was eliminated in the round of 16 of the tournament.
Partizan started the EuroCup season as a big favorite for the cup, but saw how Bursaspor knocked out in the “16” phase (103:95 in overtime) and threw out of the continuation of the tournament. Turkey, who finished seventh in their group, put in an unimaginable performance, taking the game into overtime and capitalizing on the hosts’ intense pressure to secure a unique victory.
This result implies that Partizan cannot claim the 2022/23 EuroLeague ticket via the EuroCup as they expect a wildcard for the event. Otherwise, he will have to wait another season for his return.
Matthias Lesor (20 points, 8 rebounds) and Alexa Avramovic (23 points, 6 assists) were the ones who stood out for Partizan, but to no avail – Kevin Panter and Jacques Leday had 7/28 shots. For Dusan Alibijevic’s winners, Andrew Andrews had 24 points (with 7/10 shots and 11/11 shots), 8 rebounds and 10 assists, while Onuralp Beatty also had a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
On the contrary, Virtus Bologna did what it should have done against Lietkabelis, although it didn’t want to with its performance either. The guests were excellent, but they paid for the miss with two points (37.8%), in a night where Panagiotis Kalaitzakis had 8 points (with 2/6 two points, 1/2 three points and 1/2 shots) , 2 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 3 errors in 21’17” attendance.
Both Valencia against Hamburg and Gran Canaria against Slask Wroclaw had an easy game.
The EuroCup is over for Mike Bramo, among others, who couldn’t prevent the victory over Venezia against Boulogne Levalois. The expatriate guard/forward had used 9 points (with 0/1 two points, 3/8 three points), 1 rebound, 4 assists and 1 block in 27’59” by Walter De Rafaele.
