EuroCup: Mam Jaite saved Virtus Bologna from the fiasco
Virtus Bologna pressed them almost like Partizan, but Mam Jaite (27 points, 11 rebounds) led them to a difficult victory – qualifying for the semifinals of the EuroCup, against Jaka Lakovic’s Ulm.
A week after the Partizan fiasco, we almost had another one, this time starring Virtus Bologna. The Italian team enjoyed the career performance of Mam Jaite (27 points, 11 rebounds) and led them to a difficult home win over Ulm (83-77), a win that secured them a ticket to the semi-finals of the EuroCup.
If there is one team that got the impressions, then it was Jaka Lakovics Ulm. The visitors were impressive, they were at +4 (73-77) with 3’28” for the end, but in the final stretch they were betrayed by the lost defensive rebounds (ss: Mam Jaite did them the damage) and bad luck , came in and went out after Karim Jallou’s attempted three at 58” (at +2 for the hosts).
Incidentally, no other Virtus Bologna player scored double digits, such as players like Milos Teodosic (7 points on 2/10 shots and 3/3 shots), Marco Bellinelli (4 points on 2/6 shots) and Tornike Chen (9 points on 4/13 shots) missed the goal. On the other hand, Jaron Blosomgayem (22 points with 6/10 shots) and Semaji Kriston (15 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists) were great, but they didn’t qualify for the double against Virtus Bologna.
In the evening’s other game of the quarterfinals of the EuroCup, Andorra (ss: last in the Endesa League ranking) caused a surprise after beating Gran Canaria.
The results and the program of the quarterfinals:
Virtus Bologna – Ulm 83-77
Gran Canaria – Andorra 77-79
Cedevita Olympia – Bursaspor (27.4., 22:00)
Valencia – Boulogne Levalois (27.2., 22:30)
The couples in the semifinals:
Virtus Bologna – Valencia / Boulogne Levalois
