The Toronto Raptors regrouped in the third quarter to hold the Atlanta Hawks 106-100 on Monday.

The Hawks were in a hot streak having won their previous seven games. They had every intention of continuing this streak by taking control 57 to 48 after two ten minutes.

Nick Nurse’s team rebounded after returning from the locker room with a 10-point streak to change the data. Gary Trent Jr. was a key player in the Raptors’ recent success and stood out again against the Hawks. He threw an unbalanced basket in the city center as the siren of the third quarter sounded to close with the victory of Toronto with 32-15 in the first 12 minutes of the second half of the match.

“At halftime, the coaches showed the kids a series of six types of play that hurt us and that we are used to fighting better,” said head coach Nick Nurs.

“It’s the little things that trigger a chain reaction. We did a little more blitzing, which won us some turnovers. »

“We made more transfers in defense, we stopped the insults, we made sure to act faster here and there. We took away some of their margins. »

Trent Jr. finished the game with nine shots in the city center and a 31-point lead in his career.

“This guy shoots very hard,” said Pascal Shiakam. It’s his bread. He plays extremely well. »

Shiakam scored just 25 points and Fred VanVlit also stood out with 16 points and 11 assists. Chris Boutcher was limited to three points but had seven rebounds in just under 21 minutes.

It must be said that the Hawks were left without the services of their star Tray Young, who is suffering from a shoulder injury. In his absence, Kevin Huerter scored 26 points. Center Clint Capella was limited to six points and eight rebounds in defeat.

The Raptors will return to action on Tuesday with a game against the No. 1 East Miami Heat.
