Clean-up begins in Portland, Blazers – Clippers exchange
The Blazers took three players and gave two to the Clippers as they begin to build the team for next season and into the future.
What everyone has been waiting for started just a few days earlier. The Blazers sent shooter Norman Powell and forward Robert Covington to the Clippers to recapture Eric Blencho, Justice Winslow, Keon Johnson and a second-round draft pick.
At Portland, they know they have nothing good to say with Damian Lillard likely out until the end of the season, so they’re starting almost from scratch, with Covington’s contract leaving Powell’s paycheck. CJ McCollum and Yusuf Nurkic could be the next to say goodbye.
Blencho’s contract expires in the summer of 2023, but the Blazers can save $15,475,000 if they fire him by June 29. If they do, the experienced guard gets $3.9 million.
