Fournier: “If I return to Europe, I would like to join a team like Olympiacos”

Evan Fournier repeated in his statements what he mentioned a few months ago and said he would be interested in the prospect of Olympiakos if he decides to return to Europe.

It was May when Evan Fournier expressed his admiration for the world of Olympiacos, writing on Twitter at the time that if he ever returned to Europe he would happily wear the ‘red and white’ shirt. Almost 4 months later this is still on his mind, albeit as a (very) distant scenario.

The Knicks and France guard/forward spoke to ERT after qualifying for the EuroBasket 2022 finals thanks to a 95-54 win over Poland in the semis, and when the conversation turned to his earlier tweet, he repeated what he had written at the time.

“The truth is I don’t look that far but I’ve always said that Olympiacos has the best atmosphere. I hope to come sometime to see Fal and feel the atmosphere.” The Frenchman initially added:

As for returning to Europe towards the end of my career, it’s too early to say, it will depend on a lot of things like injuries and such. It is far away. But when I return to Europe I would like to join a big team like Olympiacos. It’s early days though, I’m only 29 years old and I have many more years ahead of me in the NBA.”.

Earlier, referring to the French victory and whether it had … Greek connotations, he emphasized:TThe Greek style is more about the team ending up beating you with shots. Today it was the defense that led us to victory.

We played hard, we didn’t give them spaces, we didn’t allow them to play their basketball because they are a dangerous team when they gain confidence. We started the game very well and when we started building gaps they found it difficult to follow.

During the tournament we had a lot of ups and downs and we haven’t had our best game yet. We thought we could play better.”
