The Celtics honored Bill Russell in a very special way
The Celtics have revealed their special way of honoring Bill Russell’s memory by painting the number 6 on both bats as a symbol of his mastery of the bat.
The death of Bill Russell on July 31 plunged the NBA into mourning. The legendary Celtics center was not just an 11-championship player, he was a true revolutionary. And the Celtics found another way to honor him.
As the “Celtics” announced, they painted the number 6 on the two bats in the team’s stadium as a symbolic sign that he was the ruler of the bat.
The Celtics also announced they will honor Russell in various ways throughout the season, with two nights dedicated to him: October 18 (the season opener) and February 12 (his birthday).
