NBA: Sarver initiates lawsuits to sell Phoenix Suns, Phoenix Mercury
In a letter, Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury owner Robert Sarver announced that he had begun selling the two organizations following the uproar over his name and his year-long ban from the NBA.
For Robert Sarver, after the NBA’s penalties (1-year ban and $10 million fine) with allegations of racism, misogyny and sexism, things are looking increasingly difficult.
The latest development is the mighty man of Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury announced in a letter that they have initiated proceedings to sell the two organizations.
“Words I bitterly regret that have overshadowed nearly two decades of work and the building of two organizations that brought the world closer together and made the Phoenix area stronger in men’s and women’s basketball.
As a man of faith, I believe I have the way to forgiveness. I thought the year-long ban would give me time to reflect and break away from the teams and fans I love.
In today’s unforgiving climate, it is now well known that this will not be done, no matter how good I may have or could yet do it. The past will always overshadow them. Because of this, I have initiated procedures to find buyers for Sans and Mercury.
I don’t want to be the downfall of these two teams and the amazing people who work hard to bring basketball to fans around the world. I want what’s best for both organizations, the players, the staff, the fans, the community, the other team owners, the NBA and the WNBA. I think this step is the best for everyone.
In the meantime, I will keep working to become a better person and help society in important ways. Thank you for supporting the two organizations and the power of sport that brought us together.”
