Simmons on Sixers: “I was in a difficult position mentally and nobody supported me”

Ben Simmons lashed out at the Sixers, saying in an interview that while he made it clear that he wasn’t mentally ready to get promoted to the team early last season, nobody backed him, instead putting him in a more difficult position.

Ben Simmons decided to add another episode to his rivalry with the Sixers. More than a year after his trade request, months-long feud, mental health issues he cited and eventual trade with the Nets last February, the Australian spoke for the first time publicly on the matter. And he said a lot.

Simmons appeared on former teammate JJ Reddick’s podcast. And although the conversation had started with apotheosis and boos from Sixers fans, there was no apotheosis, just boos, when the conversation turned to the club itself.

Asked about the team’s situation, Simmons didn’t mince words, directly attacking how the Sixers were handling the mental health issues he raised. “I was in a really bad position and thought I’d try to catch up with the rest, but there were other things that didn’t help. And that’s all I wanted: help” The Nets guard first explained, to ensure… continuity:

“I didn’t feel supported by my coaches or teammates. I won’t name all my teammates because there are great players at Nomad who have approached me and are still my friends. But I didn’t feel supported and it was a difficult time for me.”

Simmons even referenced the scene with the penalty handed to him by the Sixers when Doc Rivers kicked him out of first practice: “I spoke to Rivers before practice and told him I wasn’t mentally ready and asked him to understand. I tried to tell him before training and he decided he was going to take me to training anyway.

So he told me to lie down on the floor for an exercise and I looked at him. We were in the first minute of practice and he said ‘Ben, come in’. So I thought nobody does that. He did it on purpose. And that’s how I felt. That everyone was trying to annoy me. I was penalized for not lifting weights and being one of the strongest players on the whole team. So they punished me for small things. Everything was just set up.”

Concluding, Simmons emphasized: “Obviously I wasn’t handling things right, but neither was the team handling it right, especially those in power.”

On the evening of December 25 and the night of December 26, five Christmas games were traditionally held as part of the NBA regular season.

The most important match of the match day was played in Oklahoma, where the Thunder hosted San Antonio.

The home team started the game better and were ahead for most of the first quarter, but they missed a move 0:11 into the quarter, allowing Spurs to take the lead 41:36. For Houston, Thompson scored 26 points and Shengyun had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.

The first half of the match ended in a draw. Neither team managed to take a lead of more than 9 points, and Denver entered the big break with a 2-point lead at 57:55. Jokic scored 56 points in the NBA on Christmas Day, falling just four shy of Bernard King’s record. Nikola also recorded a triple-double with 16 rebounds and 15 assists. Murray had a double-double with 35 points and 10 assists.

Forbes named the most valuable sports team of 2025

Version Forbes announced its annual ranking of the world’s most expensive sports teams.

NFL franchise Dallas Cowboys, estimated to be worth $13 billion, has led the pack for the ninth year in a row.

While NBA Golden State Warriors ranked second with a valuation of $11 billion, another representative of American football, Los Angeles Rams (10.5 billion), was in the top three.

The top 10, as last year, includes only American teams from the NFL and NBA. There are seven NFL clubs in the top 10 overall, which Forbes analysts attribute to the league’s large-scale television contracts.

Among football clubs, Real Madrid remains the most expensive – the Spanish giant ranked only 20th with a value of $6.75 billion.

Also in the top 50 are Manchester United (24th, 6.6 billion), Barcelona (42nd, 5.65 billion) and Liverpool (48th, 5.4 billion). In total, only four football clubs are represented in the top 50 rankings.

Formula 1 representatives also returned to the list – Ferrari (26th place) and Mercedes (34th).
