Speaking at the Lakers’ Media Day on the possibility of overtaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and becoming the top scorer in NBA history, LeBron James emphasized that he will not push himself and remain humble.

LeBron James is just a breath away from writing his name in NBA history in golden letters. In fact, he’s 1,326 points away from overtaking the legendary Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and becoming the top scorer in NBA history.

“The King” was asked about it at Lakers’ Media Day and responded that he didn’t want to put himself under pressure to make it, but that he would be honored to be on the same level as Abdul-Jabbar.

With the new NBA season just around the corner, LeBron has amassed 37,062 career points so far Abdul-Jabbar stopped at 38,387.

The only time I thought about it was when someone posted it and I see it on my feed. I’m speechless every time. Certain guys analyze it depending on the games I’m going to play etc. I’ve never played with the ‘if’ in my head in my career. ‘If I do this, if I do that’. I wanted to be at my best and available.

Knowing that I’m so close to this record keeps me humbled, I’m very happy with that. I know Kareem has some disagreements with me but to be compared to such a player who wore the Lakers jersey and was part of the organization is awful for me. Being in the same conversation as Karim. I remain humble and remember where I started and the little gear I had. When the time comes, I won’t put myself under any pressure. When my family is here, that’s the most important thing.”
