The new NBA rule is the result of 1,700 outrageous fouls last season
Based on the 1,700 fouls committed in the 2021-22 season, the NBA has decided to penalize take-fouls that cut off surprises and miss spectacular phases.
One of the worst… spectacles in the NBA in recent years has been the fouls committed to prevent upsets. The so-called take fouls. The league has long been looking for a way to combat them so that the tempo of the games will be even faster and will therefore introduce a new regulation from the 2022/23 season that will penalize the player who stops his opponent in a fastbreak Situation.
For example, if Pascal Siakam fouls Giannis Antetokounmpo to catch him off guard, the Raptors will be charged with a foul that gives the Bucks a shot and next possession. This shot does not have to be taken by Antetokounmpo, but by any player on the team that won the foul.
According to Synergy Sports, Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks) won the most take fouls last season, followed by DeAaron Fox (Sacramento Kings) in second place, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Donovan Mitchell (Jazz last year, Cavaliers this year), Russell Westbrook (Los Angeles Lakers) in third and Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), Steph Curry (Golden State Warriors), Ja Morad (Memphis Grizzlies), Jordan Poole (Golden State Warriors), Julius Randle (New York Knicks), around the ten to complete.
