Teams in Europe are following developments in the NBA with a very specific date in mind. Sportish explains when the deadline for the last cuts before the start of the regular season expires.

In the NBA, the start of the regular season is fast approaching, and with it the deadline for the 30 organizations to finalize their rosters. Each team has the right to “take away” up to 20 basketball players during their preparation (training camp and preseason), but this number must fall below the magic number 17.

NBA teams can enter the league with a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 15 regular contracts (partially or fully guaranteed) and two two-way contracts together.

Simply put, you can start the regular season with up to 17 basketball players on your roster. The Dallas Mavericks, for example, are done with Facundo Cabaso and all 15 of their “regular” contract spots, leaving them with only one two-way contract left as the first such contract is held by Tyler Dorsey.

The deadline for the final cuts is midnight Greek time (5:00 p.m. EST next Monday) on October 17, as the 2022-23 season opens the following night with Boston Celtics versus Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors – Los Angeles Lakers becomes. This means that as of Tuesday 18 October 00:01 the free agent pool will have plenty of talent for Europe’s clubs to draw from.
