Pascal Shiakam excelled with 35 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists, but the Raptors ran out of time and had to deliver the 110-109 defeat by the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night. So the Raptors’ winning streak ends at eight.
Shiakam is doing very well, with 30 points for the second consecutive game and third in February.
Apart from Shiakam, Fred Van Wlit also had a good night, scoring 25 points. Scotty Barnes had 17 points and Gary Trent Jr. had 11.
In the final seconds of the match, OG Anunoby had a good chance to play the heroes under the basket, but Nikola Jokic closed a counter to keep the Nuggets ahead.
True to form, Jokic played another good game. He finished the game with 28 points, 15 rebounds and six assists to help Denver win the game.
He was supported by 19 points by Jeff Green.
The Raptors are now two and a half games behind No. 5 in the East, held by the Philadelphia 76ers.
The Raptors entered the 4th quarter with a small lead, but the Nuggets did enough to close the gap and win.
Toronto will be in action again on Monday against the Pelicans.
