Harden chose the No. 1 jersey with the Sixers, first without the No. 13 because of Chamberlain
James Harden chose the No. 1 jersey with the Sixers as his favorite No. 13 was unavailable due to resigning in honor of Wilt Chamberlain.
James Harden wore the number 13 throughout his NBA career. He wore this to the Thunder, this to the Rockets, this to the Nets. On the other hand, with the Sixers, where he belongs now, he will wear the No. 1. And there’s a good reason for that.
No. 13 has been retired from Philadelphia, having previously been worn by the legendary Wilt Chamberlain, who played for the Sixers from 1965 to 1968. They were the ancestors of the Golden State Warriors, who also retired the No. 13 jersey.
Anyway, Harden will now wear the No. 1 jersey, with the Sixers breaking the news with a beautiful VIDEO showing the jersey being sewn, captioned “He’s is the 1.”
