A day of celebration for Tyrik Evans after the NBA announced that his two-year sentence for using prohibited substances had expired and that he could now play in the league again.

Tyrik Evans (33 years, 1.98 meters) has the right to compete again in the NBA. The news was announced by the league, saying they had granted his request to have his sentence ended early for use of prohibited substances, which had resulted in a 2-year sentence.

Evans was fined in May 2019 — while he was a Pacers player — for testing positive for a prohibited substance in violation of the NBA anti-drug policy. He was the first player to be penalized with a two-year suspension after Chris Andersen in distant 2008.

A few months before his two-year sentence expired, Evans petitioned the NBA for an early termination of his sentence, which was accepted. He is now a free agent and has rejoined the league with all teams having the right to nominate him as of February 18th.

Evans was drafted #4 in the 2009 NBA Draft and won Rookie of the Year honors in the 2009-10 season. During his career, he has worn the jerseys for the Kings, Pelicans, Grizzlies, and Pacers, with career averages of 15.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.2 steals in 31 minutes of attendance. In the 2018-19 season – his last in the NBA before the penalty – he averaged 10.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 20 minutes.
