Trae Young’s relationship with Nate McMillan appears to be deteriorating, with US reports claiming that the Hawks star and coach had a tense moment at team practice, leading to the decision to drop the All-Star from the roster versus the nuggets.

The Hawks weren’t in their best form to start the season. Something about the mediocre start (13-10), something about the injuries to Collins and Hunter, there’s disgrace in Atlanta. But that awkwardness is now reaching the point where it’s turning to ice cream because of Trae Young.

According to a report by The Athletic, Young was being treated for a condition in his right shoulder in practice before the game against the Nuggets (Atlanta won 117-109), when McMillan asked him if he would attend practice and then play with the team’s star player, and replied that he wanted to focus on his recovery and would know if he would compete later in the day.

But that response didn’t sit well with McMillan, who presented him with two options: either come off the bench against the Nuggets or not even go on the court for the game. Yang chose the second path, further proof that the two men’s relationship is less than ideal.

Based on what has been reported, there is no question of a suspension and Young will normally attend the Hawks’ next game. However, his relationship with McMillan is now at a breaking point, leading to general confusion among the Hawks as to how the matter should be handled.
