Tyler Dorsey’s suitors and the facts about the hottest player out there
Tyler Dorsey was released by the Mavericks on Monday night (12/26) but is not yet free. What is he looking for, which teams are interested and which can submit his claim? Sportish evaluates the data of the 26-year-old supervisor.
On July 7 last year, he told Olympiakos that he would continue his career in the NBA, and the very next day, the red-whites joined Isaiah Kanan to fill his void at the start of the offseason. Tyler Dorsey had decided to return to the United States, he bought a house in Dallas where his partner is from, he trained with the Mavericks and finally the organization announced on July 24th that they had assigned him to the Mavericks Status of a two-way contract.
Five months later, the Mavs released Dorsey and he instantly became the hottest name on the European market. For more than one reason. However, the expatriate guard will wait until midnight Wednesday for the 48 hours that give the league’s remaining 29 teams the right to “pinch” him from the two-way status free agent pool to pass.
If there is no interest, then by Wednesday night (12/28) Dorsey will be an unrestricted free agent with the right to speak to any club, in the US, in Europe, wherever he chooses.
Kidd and Tyler’s G-League stats
That Sportish It was what Dorsey’s decision to return to the NBA had revealed and what explained the reasons why the international goalscorer had closed the door on Europe.
Except things didn’t turn out the way he dreamed, although for many the alignment with the Mavericks was poor from the start. Or at least it wasn’t as promising as it was claimed.
We’re nearing halfway through the regular season and Kidd has down to just nine players (Doncic, Dinwiddie, Finney-Smith, Bullock, Hardaway, Wood, Kleber, Green, Powell). Three others play sporadically (Dilikina, Bertans and McGee) and after the chaos.
The Mavericks coach took Cabasso and parked him on the edge of the bench, he doesn’t trust rookie Jaden Hardy and sophomore McKinley Wright so Dorsey didn’t get a chance to stand out.
Tyler went into the Mavericks with confidence, he thought he would impress his coach with his game and performance, feeling ready after full seasons in the EuroLeague, last year’s Final Four appearance and his run in the EuroBasket, but the reality was hard.
Dorsey spent some time in the G-League, a low-level league for his status, and in 17 games there he averaged 24.4 points on an incredible 47% from three (3.7 field goals per 7.9 made), 84 .2% from the field, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and a steal every 32.5 minutes.
The game was easy for him, but no matter what he did, even after his season-best 47 points, “Jason Kidd didn’t see him.”
Campasso, Fenerbahce and the auction
For Tyler Dorsey of the EuroLeague Final Four (as a starter) and EuroBasket (also as a starter), staying in the G-League has ranged from tough to unfair. And the Dallas Mavericks’ handling of him proved insulting.
Jason Kidd isn’t actually the entire organization as it was people he knew from his college days who brokered for him to get the $502,000 two-way.
From the moment he… saw no light, and from the moment Cabaso’s transfer to the Red Star was complete, Dorsey knew there was no reason for him to spend any more time in Dallas.
And because there is a need for reinforcement in many organizations in Europe, the Expatriate Guard has understood what its interest is in the most competitive EuroLeague of all time. Returning to our seats and taking as much as possible with us. In role and money, two months before his 27th birthday.
The place is buzzing for you Fenerbahçe, as Dimitris Itoudis made him his priority last summer. The two men worked together at the national team, with the national team idolizing him on social media during EuroBasket, while Dorsey himself had publicly admitted there had been links with the Istanbul team.
Carsen Edwards did not live up to expectations (7.9 points from 43% on twos and 34% on threes, 1.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 5.1 points in the rating system per 16:23 in 14 EuroLeague games), but Dorsey’s co-existence with Wilbekin on Maccabi Tel Aviv wasn’t…ideal, and perhaps a reunion doesn’t excite the now-ex-Mavericks player as much as Fenerbahce do at the prospect of that transfer.
THE Olympic It goes without saying that he is dealing with his former player’s case, but let’s not forget that Tyler Dorsey left while he was in a senior role and while an offer of improved salaries was on the table.
The Piraeus are interested in him again, but a possible excess… of excesses is not guaranteed to raise the level of the team as there may be other balance and cohesion issues.
THE They were partisans It’s also a club that will claim him, especially following the addition of Red Star (Vildosa – Campaso) but even there there are questions as to how easily Dorsey can co-exist with Pander as they are players of similar style and character .
Reports of interest following the home loss to Red Star in the historic EuroLeague game had been denied, but in this case there seems to be both smoke and fire.
Armani Milano and Real Madrid will be involved subject to conditions but they are unlikely to provide Dorsey with the role he needs, as will Barcelona, who addressed the foreign security guard’s case last summer and may return to his demand .
As for Maccabi and Monaco? They should also be interested, since the Israelis have less money than the Monegasques, but Sascha Obradovic’s team is already relying on big guards like Mike James, Eli Okombo and Jordan Lloyd. So the fit doesn’t seem to be optimal there either.
He’s waiting like Kostas waited…
Teams interested in Dorsey can reach out to his representatives and share their thoughts until midnight Wednesday (12/28). However, as of Thursday morning (12/29), the expatriate guard can sign wherever he wants, like Costas Antetokounmpo did when he leaked 48 hours after being released from the cops.
For Dorsey, it’s not the role or the money that matters right now, it’s the combination. He wants both a starring role and the best contract he can find on the market. If that combination doesn’t exist, he weighs the data and selects the prospect that most resonates with him.
Whether it’s in Piraeus, Istanbul, Belgrade, Monte Carlo, Tel Aviv or anywhere else on the basketball planet.
