LeBron on Jordan: “I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity to shake hands with the man who inspired me”
Referring to the embrace with Michael Jordan that went around the world, LeBron James emphasized that he just wanted to shake the hand of the man who inspired him.
In an All-Star game that went down in history as perhaps the best of all time, one of the moments that stayed with everyone was Michael Jordan’s embrace with LeBron James. And that was one of the topics LeBron was supposed to comment on after the game.
The “king” was asked about this hug and answered very humanely. “After the award ceremony for the 75 best players, chaos reigned. But I didn’t want to pass up the opportunity to shake hands with the man who inspired me growing up.” LeBron first explained, adding:
“We haven’t spoken much in my 19-20 years in the NBA, but I wouldn’t be here if I hadn’t been inspired by him. I always wanted to be like him growing up.”
Finally, James also referenced symbolism since the All Star Game winning basket he made was one of Jordan’s signature moves, the fade-away shot: “It’s crazy because the winning basket I scored on a fade away shot is inspired by Jordan. The way he wore his shoes and the way he looked, the cars he drove, all inspired me. I didn’t want to pass up this opportunity as we’re not often in the same place and generally haven’t met often throughout my career. It meant a lot to me.”
