Los Angeles Lakers vs. Atlanta Hawks live: recap and highlights

Last room

Full time. The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Atlanta Hawks 130-121.

The Lakers go to victory (126-119, 0:55). With 2+1 and another double from LeBron, the Angels already seem on their way to victory in one of the best nights of the King’s season.

Shocking final in Atlanta (117-113, 3:32). LeBron has already reached 40 points, Trae has 27 points and Toscano closes the game for the Lakers for his big defensive contribution. Three and a half minutes left in the game but there is still a long way to go with such parity.

LeBron brought the story back to how it was (108-105, 7:27). With the re-entry of LeBron, the Lakers returned to the spotlight: a three-pointer from the King to increase his personal tally to 37 points and leave the Angelenos three points ahead.

Atlanta regains control (100-101, 10:50). With LeBron and Trae Young rested, it was the Hawks who seized the moment for a 6-2 run with 3-pointers by Bogdanovic and Holiday putting them back in front of the scoreboard.

Third quarter

Los Angeles, in view of the last 12 minutes (98-95). The Lakers finally put together a great defensive line against a team that struggled to score outside the paint and didn’t have as many rebounding opportunities anymore. They also hit 3-pointers off hands other than Reaves (who went 1-7 on the night) and that’s why they beat Atlanta late in the third quarter.

Toscano’s energy serves the Lakers (82-81, 4:26). With Juan Toscano-Anderson on the floor, the Lakers finally got going on defense: a 12-2 run for the visitors who finally managed to take the lead in the game thanks to a LeBron James three-pointer.

Atlanta rebounds, though LeBron doesn’t give up (70-79, 7:01). LeBron is already close to a triple-double on his 38th birthday, with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists, but if the Hawks continue to be this effective on the counter, Los Angeles will have a tough time: they’ve already allowed 13 it seems.

Second bedroom

LeBron tied this game (62-67). After trailing by 15 points to Atlanta, the Lakers go into halftime with just two possessions on the scoreboard. They didn’t change defensively, but their every possession started to work with LeBron leading the way with 18 points and Thomas Bryant and Pat Beverley accompanying. Atlanta already has four players in double figures: Trae Young is their leading scorer with 17 points.

LeBron began to make an impact on the game (56-63, 1:48). James already went to rest again, but he did so with 14 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds to his credit after a long stretch in which he put the Lakers back in the game on the scoreboard.

Triples are a problem for the Lakers (39-52, 6:35). Although Pat Beverley just made one, Los Angeles needs to improve on its 3-point shooting: it’s 3-13, with Austin Reaves especially unsuccessful. John Collins reached three fouls and Darwin Hamm called a timeout.

The Hawks don’t quit (30-43, 8:42). The Lakers can’t find their offensive rhythm even with LeBron’s pace, and Atlanta takes advantage: Bogdan Bogdanovic sparks offense off the bench, and the locals reach a new maximum advantage.

First quarter

Atlanta, the owner of the first quarter (23-33). The local team wins by 10 points, almost their maximum advantage (12), after the opening 12 minutes. An unrested Trae Young already scored 13 points and AJ Griffin contributed another 8. The Lakers haven’t had a good revenue from Westbrook nor have they found LeBron’s best yet: 1-5 from the field for the King.

The Hawks’ triples started to fall (12-21, 4:17). AJ Griffin hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Dejude Murray added his own for an Atlanta team that began to pull away from Los Angeles.

Hawks start ahead (8-12, 6:39). Atlanta leads by four points in a game that currently has two wild teams, but with Trae Young stepping a little more steadily than LeBron James.

The match has begun.
