The Kemba-Walker fiasco and the fake news are all easy to believe

Gazzetta Dello Sport’s “exclusive story” that left basketball fans speechless on Saturday morning and revealed a near-completed deal between Armani Milan and Kemba Walker ended in a fiasco of the year.
The Italian team not only ignored – according to the leading newspaper – advanced contacts with the 4-time all-star guard of the NBA, but denied them through the mocking manner that Ettore Messina uses in such cases.
At the same time, it was again recognized how easy it is to spread misinformation today, when news spreads without the slightest control in the chaos of the internet. While Milan had no idea of the 32-year-old NBAer, there was analysis after analysis on Twitter and the rest of social media.
By how much can a healthy walker increase Armani’s level? Can such a good NBA player make a difference in the EuroLeague? What kind of basketball is Kemba suitable for?
These and other “nagging” questions have been asked on social media by the various petitioners, or even completely unrelated, to express their opinions or to tell their long and short stories.
Everyone had (we had, because I don’t exclude myself, at least at the beginning of the whole… phase) believed the news that the Italian club had in fact not only come close, but were just one step away from knowing it to give Walker signing for the rest of the year and I don’t know for how much longer.
The prestige of the media that exposed the “problem” (it was Gazzetta Dello Sport and not some seedy basketball influencer) and its rapid reproduction in the NQD did not even allow for filtering or confirmation, even by people who know a basic tenet of journalism : First we check and confirm the news, then we share it.
But who remembers all this? It is important that the data match. And in our case almost everything was true, except… the truth.
✍ Kemba Walker last played basketball on January 6 when he scored 2p. in the Mavericks game against the Celtics. Immediately after Dallas decided on his release. He had managed to play nine more games, the highlight of which was against the Cavaliers (on 12/17) when he had 32 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. This was the framework and the Gazzetta Dello Sport wrote about the transfer of the year that developed all aspects of a … non-existent theme. First he put Walker on the plane and claimed the deal was final, then he wrote about any doubts due to the player’s health and kept the whole story in suspenseful continuity.
As soon as the news broke, its rendition made Walker’s alleged move to Milan the first topic of discussion. After a few hours it started to be denied and finally after Armani’s match against Dertona, Ettore Messina’s statement clarified:
“There is nothing and I have not the slightest comment to make. We’re talking about a great player who has been struggling with injury problems over the last year. I have nothing to say to you Ask Gadgeta who broke the news without calling us. You read it on Twitter and wrote a whole article“.
The service, the trolls and the camps
Somehow a dot was put on a topic that shouldn’t even have a party. Apparently, this isn’t the first time a journalist has “stepped on her.” He makes the so-called “blunder” in journalistic dialect. It has happened many times in the past, it will happen again in the future.
Except that today, in the age of information spreading like lightning, journalistic errors affect many more people than in the past when the readers of a newspaper found that the report they read did not correspond to reality.
And Venice may not have lost a pin that Kemba Walker will never play Milan, but I imagine that in a different kind of reporting that has more impact on our society and our lives, a similar error would take on far greater proportions. Especially when the public is so gullible that they cannot distinguish between real and fake news, since the volume fed to them on a daily basis is such that it is almost impossible to separate them.
Finally, there are those who do not want this separation. They are served by fake news, which in reality is readily disseminated by paid trolls or naïve, rampant fanatics. The different camps can now be distinguished very well if a “news” or a catchphrase is repeated, without even the famous copy-paste disturbing.
Perhaps reader retention, a second option to check the validity of the news from another source, is a solution.
But first of all, the responsibility lies with the journalists themselves, who often smugly go on the aimless hunt for publications of “exclusives” on the Internet, which in the end bring nothing. Instead of collecting one like above it would be good if they double check the source and of course raise your hand and… make a call as Messina says

Denver Nuggets announced Nikola Jokic He will miss at least four weeks due to a left knee injury.
