Hachimura: “I want to be on a team that wants me, I don’t know if it’s the Wizards”
With trade rumors circulating, Rui Hachimura spoke openly about the matter for the first time and caused a stir when he said he didn’t know if the Wizards were the team he hoped to continue his career with.
Rui Hachimura couldn’t bear to read and hear more rumors about a deal with him. At the first opportunity he was given to speak out on the subject, he exploded.
Having just scored 30 points in defeating the Magic (138-118), the Japanese forward faced the media and when asked if he thought about what was being written about his trade, he disagreed. “I just want to be somewhere they want me and be on a team that likes my game.” In response to a question he received about whether this team is the Wizards, he first stated, “I do not know. We have to find out.”
Hachimura then emphasized: “I just want to play my game. I know what I can do and I can help a team win. Whether that happens here or with another team, I can help.”
Finally, the 2019 NBA draft #9 was asked if he would like a trade and after a few seconds of silence he replied, “I do not know. I just have to focus on the moment and what is happening. I know what’s going on and I just have to play my game, be myself.”
This season, Hachimura has averaged 13 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 24 minutes of play.
