The NBA’s statement on the case of Tyre Nichols and the moment of silence before the Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Memphis Grizzlies

Tyr Nichols, a 29-year-old man, died on January 10 in Memphis, Tennessee, three days after he was violently arrested by five Memphis police officers.

This Friday, January 27, images of his arrest were released, shocking the United States community.

Before the Minnesota Timberwolves’ game against the Memphis Grizzlies in Minneapolis, Minnesota, a moment of silence was observed in memory of Tyre Nichols.

The NBA then issued the following statement

“The images of Tyre Nichols’ life needlessly being cut short are shocking. While steps have been taken toward those responsible in this case, the NBA remains committed to working with attorneys, politicians and law enforcement to work toward solutions to the issues. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. Nichols, the entire Memphis community and those affected by the tragic loss and images.”

The Memphis Grizzlies, Minnesota Timberwolves and Minnesota Lynx franchises also issued announcements about the case.
