The NBA has given the green light to sell the Suns to Matt Isby
The NBA Board of Owners has unanimously approved the sale of the Phoenix Suns to billionaire Matt Isby and is expected to complete the process and historic switchover in the next few days.
By a 29-0 vote (the Cleveland Cavaliers were absent from the process), the NBA Board of Trustees approved the sale of the Phoenix Suns to 42-year-old businessman Matt Isby, who also buys the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA.
Isbia, of Jewish descent, is in the mortgage lending business and his fortune (according to Forbes) exceeds $5.5 billion. Isbia’s relationship with basketball began when he was a student at Michigan State and later took over the business his father, Jeff Isbia, founded in 1986.
ESPN had discover since the Isbia deal last December by outgoing owner Robert Sarver, who was effectively forced by the league to sell the Suns in the wake of the scandal and has come under fire over allegations of racism and misogyny. Isbia reportedly bought 57% of the shares and the deal was closed for $2.28 billion.
