LeBron: “I let people decide who the GOAT is, I always feel like I’m the best”
LeBron James brought up the topic of GOAT on his rise to the top scorer in NBA history, and while he politely avoided an answer at first, he later gave his opinion.
The talk about the GOAT is endless. Is it Michael Jordan? Lebron James? Kareem Abdul Jabbar? Magic Johnson? Bill Russell? Will Chamberlain? Kobe Bryant? Larry Vogel? “It’s a nice chat in a hair salon.” said LeBron when Shaquille O’Neal asked him about the fact that he is now the all-time leading scorer, overtaking Abdul-Jabbar.
The conversation about the GOAT was reopened. LeBron’s illustrious career put him squarely into this conversation. However, when asked shortly after breaking Karim’s record if he felt GOAT now, he gave a highly diplomatic but also… telling response.
“I let people decide. It’s a nice chat in a hair salon.” LeBron first explained before adding: “Look to see. I would prefer myself to anyone. Everyone will have their favorite player, everyone will decide who their favorite is. But I know what I’ve put on the table, what I’ll bring every night, and what I can do on the floor.
I always feel like I’m the best player that has ever played the game, but there are so many great players out there and I’m happy to be a part of this journey. It’s crazy what happened now. I never wanted to be the all-time top scorer, it just happened. The fact that I’ve been on the ground for so many years, with three different organizations trying to get the best out of me every night, and having great teammates and coaches who let me be myself.”
