There was an earthquake in the NBA. Practically 12 hours before the closing of the transfer market, brooklyn nets they’ve hit the reset button and made another important exchange: Kevin Durant is headed to the Phoenix Suns.
According to what Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania announced almost simultaneously, the New York franchise would have accepted an offer made by those from Arizona to acquire the star in exchange for J.ae Crowder, Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson, as well as different Draft rounds as compensation. Plus, the Nets will give TJ Warren that he will return to Phoenix.
The transfer is summarized as follows:
- To Brooklyn: Cameron Johnson, Mikal Bridges, Jae Crowder, 4 unprotected first round draft picks (2023, 2025, 2027 and 2029) and a 2028 trade.
- In Phoenix: Kevin Durant, TJ Warren
This is a move of enormous importance. Not only does it spell the end of the Nets’ pharaoh run, it automatically propels the Suns into ring contention in a difficult season. Durantwho has another three years on his contract, continues at an excellent level despite his ongoing physical problems and will be responsible for guiding Monty Williams’ men to glory.
In doing so, Phoenix maintains a core five with unmatched potential in the West consisting of Chris Paul, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, Dario Saric and Deandre Ayton. The big unknown will be his second unit, which has been significantly depleted as a result of the transfer and where only Cam Payne and Josh Okogie stand out.
From Brooklyn’s perspective, the deadline isn’t over. They will continue to hear offers for Jae Crowder as Ben Simmons and other secondary like Joe Harris, Seth Curry and Patty Mills. The Nets have begun their rebuild and need assets ASAP.
