His name Pau Gasol could become part of basketball history with capital letters. He Basketball Hall of Fame or Hall of Fame announced on Friday February 17th that the Catalan is among the finalists for the class of 2023. This is extremely positive news, but it doesn’t mean anything yet, since to be included you have to go through a complicated selection process.
The process to get into the Basketball Hall of Fame can be a little complicated to understand. The various committees present their nominations and votes are held, the final results of which are never revealed.
So it’s time to explain how it works the process of becoming part of the basketball hall of fame.
How does the process work to get into the Basketball Hall of Fame?
To be eligible for the Basketball Hall of Fame or Basketball Hall of Fame, players must be fully retired and have completed four full seasons to be included. These may be considered to be included in your fifth year of retirement.
For example, Ginobili last played in the NBA in the 2017-2018 season. After not playing in 2018-2019 and beyond, he was eligible in 2022.
Nominations for entry are individual and recommended internally by the two committees (North American and Women). The North American body consists of nine voting members and the Women’s body has 7 and equal rights.
To be permanently inducted into the Hall of Fame, a candidate must pass by an absolute majority: 7 to 9 in North America and 5 to 7 in women.
If a candidate does not advance, they will be eligible indefinitely. Only in case you get 0 votes you have to wait 5 years before you can do this process again.
You can read more about the voting process here.
