Irving’s analysis of the 50’s and the two numbers that show his talent

It was the 5th 50th of Irving’s career in the NBA – only 21 other players in NBA history have achieved that – with the Nets star becoming the first player to score at least two 50s, which he ended up with 75% in shots but also shot in threesome! Most importantly, it was a recital few players in the modern NBA can match. And the numbers show that.

Two unimaginable numbers

According to InStat Scout, Irving’s 19 shots came in specific situations and produced the following result:

catch and shoot: 8/9 three points – 24 points

isolation (One on one): 3/3 two points – 6 points

Hand off (all hand in hand): 1/1 three points – 3 points

cuts (cuts to the basket): 1/1 two points – 2 points

crossing (Surprise): 1/1 two points, 0/1 three points – 2 points

fade out (coming out of the screen): 1/1 two points – 2 points

Pick and Roll where he attempted a shot: 0/2 two points – 0 points

The first number to catch is this: Irving had 8/9 threes in catch-and-shoot situations, where he shot just after a pass without dribbling. Even more impressive though, he had marked (contested) threes at 6/6!

At the same time, there’s another number that’s equally impressive: Irving had a total of 13/16 (7/9 threes, 6/7 twos) “marked” (contested) shots that he attempted, but also 6/9 shots that he did after dribbling, up to another great number.

Irving gave one show but mostly threw what he had on the floor and scored in every way. Most importantly, he reminded everyone of what makes him so special: Despite being one of the best ball handlers in NBA history and one of the most gifted scorers in one-on-one situations, his ability to be just as efficient even when playing off the ball sets him apart.

Because of this, many believed if the Nets managed to get the duo of Durand, Harden and Irving on the ground at the same time, they could go to the end of the road: Irving’s ability to play off the ball and Harden leave Durand to one to play one. We’ll likely never know if that would happen because of Harden’s trade with the Sixers. However, the theory behind the coexistence of the three stars was based on this gift from Irving.

Waiting for Simmons and the… Mayor of New York

Irving’s decision to remain unvaccinated and New York law preventing him from playing in the Nets’ home games deprived Brooklyn of one of its best players and possibly Χάρ James Harden.
