2023 NBA Play-In Scenarios and Tiebreaker Criteria

The standings in each conference are dictated by games won, while the criteria of equality are:

  1. If the tiebreaker is between a division leader and other non-leader teams, the division leader prevails.
  2. Winning percentage of the best match among those involved in the tie.
  3. Better winning percentage against teams from the same division (only if tied teams belong to the same division).
  4. Better winning percentage against teams from the Conference itself.
  5. Best winning percentage against teams that qualified for the Conference Playoffs (including teams that finish in a tie for a Playoff spot).
  6. Best winning percentage against teams that qualified for the Playoffs in the other Conference (including teams that finish in a tie for a Playoff spot).
  7. Best difference in points scored and received against all opponents (point difference).
