Golden State Warriors vs. Sacramento Kings: the key to the series

Two of the NBA’s best offensive teams will face each other. The Kings are done with it best score per 100 possessionswhile Golden State was the Second team scoring most points per game. Neither of them should have any trouble at this junction getting high.

However, what may really define this series, beyond the vast disparity in playoff experience between one team and another, is the defense issue. And while neither was consistent on that side during the Regular Season, Golden State appears to have better tools at your disposal to have a leap in quality. Even more so with his recovery Gary Payton II (key to the 2022 Playoffs) and his possible return Andrew Wiggins.

In fact, when the Warriors gathered on the court Draymond Green and Andrew Wigginshis two best defenders, allowed an amazing score just 109.5 per 100 possessions. However, any other composition that included either one or none of them raised this α score moderate 115.8. In other words, Golden State needs to have Green and Wiggins on the court to be a good defense.

Against the Kings, the paint defense, in addition to Sacramento having good shooters. The key to attacking success for Mike Brown’s men is their own performance close to the rim: with two experts as De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis in the lead, it was the team of better percentage in doubles of the NBA (58.6%). Golden State, for its part, finished as the 9th best interior defender in the league, allowing 53.6% in doubles. The return of Wiggins, his block leader, will also help.

Unlike other crossovers from the past and perhaps the future, this seems to be a series for Golden State plays more large that a little bit, with Green as a four and Looney as a five, along with a tall perimeter with Wiggins and Thompson, powering up near the basket and imposing the physical advantage against some light Kings and excessive perimeters. The classic small ball de Kerr could stay for other opponents.
