Joel Embiid’s dream came true when the Sixers’ Cameroonian center was named NBA MVP for the 2022-23 season.

Joel Embiid’s burning wish came true. The Philadelphia Sixers’ Cameroonian center managed to be named NBA MVP for the 2022-23 season, an honor he has long been chasing.

This marks the fifth year in a row that the award for most valuable regular-season player in the world’s top flight has gone to a non-American, after the two previous years it had gone to Serbian Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets and the two years before that the Greek Giannis Antetokounmpo from the Milwaukee Bucks.

Embiid, who averaged 33.1 points (1st scorer), 10.2 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.7 blocks during the regular season, amassed 915 points with 73 first votes (worth 10 points each), 25 second votes ( each worth 7 points) and 2 third party votes (each worth 5 points).

At the same time, Nikola Jokic had 674 points, after 15 votes in first place, 52 votes in second place and 32 votes in third place. Giannis Antetokounmpo followed with 12 first votes, 23 second votes and 65 third votes, collecting a total of 606 points.

Let’s remember that starting this year, the MVP award has been renamed the Michael Jordan Trophy.
