He Finals MVP delivered since 1969, when Jerry Westhen he was the winner Los Angeles Lakers they lose against the Boston Celtics. From that day until 2023 no other player who has lost the championship has been awarded.
From its beginnings to today they exist 34 different members who have also received it in 2009, the then commissioner of the NBA, David Stern, renamed it to “Bill Russell Award” in honor of the 11-time league champion with the Celtics.
Michael Jordan is the leading Finals MVP winner with six, uploading the same number of titles, while LeBron James is next with four and Magic Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal and Tim Duncan comes further down the list with three each.
Jordan and Shaq are the only players in NBA history to win it three times in a row, and LeBron James is the only player to do it with three different franchises.
