His virtues and powers Brandin Ponziemski

Triple expert. Podziemski is emerging as one of the big triples in this Draft. In 2022-2023, he took almost 6 3-pointers per game and made 44% of them. Very accurate with a strong foot, but also a shot from the dribble. He shouldn’t have a problem with NBA range: He shot 49 percent (24-of-49) on 3-pointers from the farthest line he’ll play at the next level.

pure efficiency. Podziemski was really effective in all offensive areas, not only as a shooter, but even when he had to create his own shot. He made an amazing 53% clearance and was also above average in handoffs, pick and rolls and drives. He has plenty of resources to score from any area, including very good use of the floater.

Role flexibility. He’s not a passing guard, but he’s still used to playing with the ball in possession and averaged 3.7 assists against just 2.3 turnovers in 2022-23. He looks like the type of player who can adapt to different roles and formations.

Good defensive contribution. Defensively, he doesn’t have the best physical resources, but he is an experienced marker and very dedicated. He was above average in blocks, averaged 1.8 steals per 36 minutes and was a defensive rebounding machine: 6.9 per 36 minutes.

Its flaws and weaknesses Brandin Ponziemski

Lack of strength. Ponziemski’s main weakness is the physical. He doesn’t have much height to play guard, but most of all he has very short arms and lacks strength and weight. Athletically he doesn’t look like the most explosive player, but he tested well at the Combine, especially in terms of his jumping ability.

Defensive doubts. He gives his best on defense, but due to a physical problem he can be targeted by good NBA forwards. In fact, even in a mid-tier conference like the WCC, he was shot significantly more one-on-one (1.4 per 36 minutes) than the average point guard and guard in the Draft (1.1).

NBA comparison for Brandin Ponziemski

A pretty clear comparison for Podziemski’s potential impact in the NBA is that of Donte DiVincenzo, as a good shooting and handling 1-2 who competes on defense and on the boards. There’s also something of Luke Kennard in Podziemski’s game.
