As of Wednesday night (6/28), since the NBA and NBPA released the new collective bargaining agreement, which will be in effect through at least 2029 and possibly 2030, thousands of people involved in the league have been losing sleep. Literally thousands. The 676 pages of the CBA contain “little treasures” such as the per diems that members of each organization, the coaches, the players, the coaches receive on trips to away games.
Pursuant to Section 2 of Article III – Expenses, each athlete will receive US$156 per day for subsistence expenses and may allocate that amount or simply keep it without being asked for a receipt.
How do players get their Daily Cash? As they board the plane, a member of the organization hands them an envelope. For example, if the Bucks go on a 10-day road trip, Giannis Antetokounmpo would be paid 156 x 10 = $1560 for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For the record, teams offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner in private hotel rooms for free, but the majority of players simply snub them.
