Giannis Antetokounbo, the only one to have received all three major awards
LeBron James, Giannis Antitokoumbo and Joel Ebid are all battling for the title of top scorer, but only Greek Freak is in contention for the NBA Big Three Regular Season Awards.
The Bucks have seven games left to complete their course in the regular season. Seven games for the best possible placement in the East. Seven of us are fighting for Giannis Antetokounbo and for first place in the region, but also for three awards. Only he can claim the MVP, the DPOY and the title of top scorer, only he can take it all and break the competition in the debate for this season’s best player in the NBA.
Ebid and Jokic are considered the favorites for the Most Valuable Player award, but the facts could change even in the closing stages if Antetokunbo makes a big showing in Brooklyn tonight if he plays in recent games like he did in Philadelphia two days ago where sacked James Harden and Joel Ebid.
The NBA already mailed ballots to journalists voting for the awards by April 11, the day after the end of the regular season, so there’s no reason to judge the outcome so early. Because it’s still very early days, with the Bucks and Sixers battling for the top spot in the East and the Nuggets battling for a place in the top six in the West.
At the moment, Giannis and Ebid have scored 1853 points in 62 games, which puts them in second place of the top scorers combined with an average of 29.8871 points. LeBron James is first at 30.13, but puts an asterisk in his case because he needs to play in three of the Los Angeles Lakers’ last seven games to be eligible for the top scorer title. If King James plays in 57 games, then his total points should be split across 58 games, which is the minimum number of games according to the league’s criteria.
Antetokunbo and Ebid need 31 points per game in the last seven games of the season to reach the 30 average. Whatever happens, the two basketballers have had a great year, with Ebid still not in the debate for the top defender award, while LeBron James is not in the debate for either MVP or DPOY. Only Antetokunbo claims all three awards, with best defender considered “locked” and the other two on the cusp if he continues to break like he did in Philadelphia.
