Tray Young scored 32 of the 38 points in the second half and the Atlanta Hawks overcame the Clint Capella by defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 107-101 on Friday to win their ticket to the first round of the playoffs.

The Hawks meet the first Heat in the East in a best-of-7 series starting Sunday in Miami.

Yang added nine assists and the Hawks took the lead in the second half with 56-40, after being left behind with 61-51 at halftime. Yang has scored 16 points in each of the last two ten minutes.

The Hawks, however, had to do without Capella’s services for most of the meeting. Capela was injured in the second quarter when his right knee flexed incorrectly after contact with Evan Mobley. The center of the six legs suffered an overextension of the right knee and could well lose the series against the Heat.

Bogdan Bogdanovic beat Yang with 19 points, five rebounds and three steals from the bench. Danilo Gallinari added 14 points, Kevin Huerter 13 and De’Andre Hunter 10 for the Hawks, who reached the Eastern Conference finals last year.

Laurie Markanen had 26 points and eight rebounds and Darius Garland 21 points, nine assists and three steals for the Cavaliers, who are eliminated before the first round of the playoffs for the fourth consecutive season. They have not been in the playoffs without LeBron James since 1998.

The Cavs could count on the return to the game of center star Jarrett Allen, who scored 11 points.

The Pelicans beat the Clippers

The New Orleans Pelicans achieved a feat by beating the Los Angeles Clippers 105-101.

So the Pelicans will have a date with the Phoenix Suns in the first round.

Brandon Ingram led the Pelicans with 30 points. CJ McCollum was second in the scoring with 19 points.

Deprived of their best weapon in Paul George, the Clippers have experienced many difficulties. Senior Marcus Morris and Reggie Jackson led the Clippers with 27 points.

The Clippers were ahead by 10 points after three ten minutes and seemed to be heading for victory. The Pelicans managed to reduce the difference in the last 12 minutes to be saved with the victory.
